In 2022, Harm Reduction Circle made a significant impact at Same Same But Different by providing education, resources, and support to create a safer environment for all attendees.

Despite the challenges posed by inclement weather, our team successfully provided drug checking services, distributed approximately 300 doses of Narcan, and collaborated with medical staff to offer trip setting support.

As a volunteer with Harm Reduction Circle, you will play a crucial role in reducing the risks associated with drug use and promoting safer partying practices. Our evidence-based harm reduction strategies prioritize education, prevention, and intervention to safeguard the well-being of all festival-goers. By joining us, you'll contribute to establishing a safe and inclusive environment for everyone in attendance.

We are actively seeking passionate individuals to provide life-saving education, supplies, and on-the-ground support.

Our Responsibilities and Duties as the Harm Reduction Team

As the Harm Reduction Team at Same Same But Different 2023, we have been entrusted with the important responsibility of creating a welcoming and safe space for festival attendees. Our primary focus is to prioritize the well-being and comfort of all guests, ensuring they have an enjoyable and secure festival experience. Here are more details about our specific responsibilities and duties:

  • Harm Reduction Supplies: We distribute essential harm reduction supplies such as condoms and earplugs to promote safer practices and prevent potential risks associated with sexual health and hearing damage. By providing these items, we empower attendees to make responsible decisions and take care of their well-being.

  • Emotional and Psychological Support: We offer support to guests who may feel overwhelmed or experience emotional and psychological distress. Our team is trained to consult with medical professionals as needed and provide assistance to individuals in crisis.

  • Drug Checking and Education: We provide drug checking services and accurate drug education to promote informed decision-making among festival-goers. Our goal is to ensure attendees have the knowledge and tools to make informed choices regarding substance use.

  • Overdose Prevention: We distribute Narcan and provide overdose response training, equipping attendees with the knowledge and resources to respond effectively to overdose emergencies.

  • Essential Supplies: We ensure that essential items such as water, electrolytes, sunscreen, condoms, and other hygiene products are readily available to attendees. This helps maintain their physical well-being and ensures they have access to necessary supplies throughout the event.

  • Workshops and Education: Our team organizes daily workshops covering various harm reduction topics. These workshops provide valuable education and empower festival-goers with knowledge to make safer choices. We aim to inform and engage attendees in meaningful discussions.

  • Collaboration: We collaborate with festival organizers, artists, and influencers to raise awareness about harm reduction practices and promote a culture of safety and well-being at Same Same But Different 2023. We work closely with the production staff/crew to provide overdose response training and Naloxone provisions prior to the festival.

By fulfilling these responsibilities and duties, we contribute to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all attendees. Our dedicated efforts support the overall safety, health, and positive experience of everyone participating in Same Same But Different 2023.

There are currently no paid positions available at this time.

We always encourage volunteers to recruit their friends! However, when friends volunteer together we ask that no two volunteers schedule themselves their shifts more than 50% of the time. This is because although available shifts may be taken, this doesn’t fill available time slots.

In very rare circumstances we may implement a deposit on volunteer tickets. We haven’t done this to date, but it’s in our Event Team Guidebook our policy states “Certain events may require an upfront ticket deposit to secure a complimentary ticket. When an upfront ticket deposit is requested volunteers must pay the deposit before their ticket request is confirmed." At this time, there is no deposit required for SSBD.
